Join NW Tas for Clean Oceans on South Burnie Beach, 11am on Saturday 15 March, to oppose the proposed salmon farm trial, expansion and sardine harvesting in Bass Strait.
The Blue Economy CRC (funded by Federal and State governments and the salmon industry) is trialling salmon pens 12km off Burnie and ignoring all the scientific evidence of the harm that this will do to our fragile marine environment.
The industry also wants to harvest huge amounts of our wild sardines, which form a key part of the food chain for our thriving wild fishery in Bass Strait, but the salmon industry could well turn them into fish meal to fatten up its salmon.
